WEEK 4 - Yangmingshan National Park

(The pic above has Matthew Merritt in it on the far right who grew up just 3 houses away all our lives. He's my District Leader here.)

Thanks everyone for the birthday wishes.

We didn't do too much this week.
I want to get out and serve the lord more.

We did a couple of member visits. We also taught two recent converts. You are supposed to re teach all the lessons with converts.

We went yo some fancy restaurant with a member couple. It was good. Kinda weird though. I didn't get a picture but I got a banana shake as well. It was good. As well as some cake.

This pday we went to a national park and did a hike. It was so cool. At the top of the peaks it's not so hot. Taiwan is pretty.
I want to see more of it.

We went to Costco and I bought a Costco card. 🤩
We then went to a qingke which is a member who pays for food. We went to an all you can eat pretty expensive place. So that was good

My Chinese is improving. I think. Even if it is by the smallest amount.
I'm excited to talk about our saviour more and more. As well as grow my relationship with him.

Taiwan is super cool. Almost been here a month already. Crazy!

Love you all

WEEK 3 in Taiwan

This week has been pretty fun.

Last p day we went to danshui and we went to McDonald's and met up with some other missionaries. After we went to some British fort which was pretty cool. We then went and got something called snowflake ice cream. It's so yummy. It's milk ice compacted then they put strawberry syrup on it. It's bussin.

Tuesday I taught English class and it seemed to go pretty well. We talked about feelings and emotions.

Friday we set up a ping-pong activity. It seemed to have went really well. I had a fun time playing with the people who showed up.

Saturday we went and had dinner with the bishop of beitou and his family.

I have still not seen much and eaten many foods but I hope I get to see more of Taiwan. I couldn't link any more photos sadly.

So far this place is beautiful and I love it. My Chinese is getting better … I hope. But I'm excited to keep loving the cute people of Taiwan. I love them so much.

Love you all, max 余長老

WEEK 2 Taiwan

This week has been pretty good.

I don't have much to say. Experiencing Taiwan has been super cool. I wish we would have gotten out more. I really want to just walk around and take Taiwan in.

We rode our bikes around. We even went to Costco. Yep they have Costco here.(the Beitou area) Riding back from Costco at night with some muffins and whole milk in the back of my bike was sick. The banana nut muffins are gas.

We lead an English discussion class. We had three people show up. It was rainy that day so pretty good I would say. We discussed about hobbies then we shared a spiritual message.

We also held a ping-pong activity. We had two boys show up and these guys seem cracked at Ping-Pong. Later this boy name J--- came with his mom. I played against him and this little guy is so cute. 😍

We also went to a house with two members and then their whole family. We taught a boy named K--- and helped a girl named C--- with English. Then shared Book of Mormon story. The children stories.

We went to their place with a member we call Jellyfish. He seemed young but he wore a tag. Not sure if he was a missionary or wearing maybe a siblings tag. We picked him up at his place

That's about all we did. I hope to explore and do some actual street contact. I feel pretty useless. But I try my best. That's all that matters right?

AND I GOT SPIDER VERSE PEPSI BABY. check photos ( ・ω・)

WEEK 1 in Taiwan

Thursday

I woke up Thursday (August 30, 2023) morning and hoped on a bus to Salt Lake City Airport. We then took about a two hour flight to San Francisco. We had about a 5 hour layover then got on the plane to Taiwan. I think it was about 12 hour flight maybe a little more. The take off was delayed but we made it to Taiwan at 7 pm Taiwan time.

Friday

We then met the mission president and his wife and headed to the mission home and got some sleep.

Saturday
We woke up. That afternoon we went to some big building with the old Chinese style. This building was big. We went inside and it had some cool interior design.

We then went onto the train station and had an activity. We had to take 5 pictures with random people. Say ni hao to 10 and also xin1ku3le which means thanks for your hard work. And we had to take pictures of items in different train stations. And make it back to where we started. Really learning how to navigate the train systems.

We then went to the night market. Across the street from where we ended. I split off with Elder Sims. We went straight to 7 11 and bought some water. Then went and explored. The night Market was super cool. Me and Elder Sims went and ate some garlic fried chicken. It was fire. All the food here is really good. We then went home and slept.

Sunday
This Sunday was fast Sunday. We went to church and listened all Chinese. I was able to understand a decent bit. But only because of all the church vocabulary and stuff. We then went to chaing kai-shek memorial hall. We walked around trying to hand out a Book of Mormon. But I'm not the best at Chinese or talking to others. Usually out and about at home I would never bother someone.

It was good though. We took lots of pictures and also. A couple people took pictures with us. So that was cool. Probably because they see two tall white guys in a foreign country. We didn't end up handing anything out. I was yo scared to talk to people.

We then had dinner with the mission president I'm the mission home. It was pretty yummy. We learned more about them and stuff. I love our mission president. He is so funny.

Today is Monday when I sent this out. We are getting our trainers today. Hopefully I get someone who can help me out. Because I don't know anything. I'm pretty nervous.

Hopefully I can get used to it here. I don't know how to talk to people. Especially in Chinese.

Anyways. I love you all. Stay safe
